Teaching:
In addition to performing, I teach beginner and intermediate jazz piano, as well as production, audio engineering, and music theory. Instruction is available either in-person or online using FaceTime or Skype. I have experience working with students of all ages, from young children to adults.
I now teach students who are a part of the Youth Jazz Collaborative of New Mexico, where I started my jazz education, and help aspiring producers from across the United States with projects of any size and genre.
I also draw on skills and experience I have acquired over the years, including:
Performing;
Teaching students in any of various Youth Jazz Collaborative of New Mexico music programs;
Composing and producing;
Basic music and technical concepts (notes, scales, chords, posture, etc.);
Basic jazz harmony (basic chord shapes, shell voicings, voice leading, basic harmonization techniques, comping);
Soloing/improvisation;
Chord substitutions;
Advanced harmonic concepts (Bebop techniques, Coltrane changes, chord voicings in 4ths, upper extensions, 6th diminished, drop 2, etc.);
Working as an audio engineer in venues ranging from churches to auditoriums and everything in between;
Working in the broadcasting/communications industry.
All of these facets have influenced my instruction in one way or another, and I enjoy helping even more people jump into music and audio through my teaching.
Please use my contact form if you are interested in setting up lessons. Rates will be discussed when I receive your correspondence.
I am also available for clinics, workshops, and classes at schools, community centers, and various other venues.
